Introduction

This travel information pack has been developed to assist staff and visitors in using sustainable modes of transport as an alternative to single car occupancy. Sustainable modes of transport include;

  • Walking
  • Cycling
  • Car sharing
  • Public transport

Use of sustainable modes of transport will help address environment and health issues. Employees and visitors to the nursery will enjoy a healthier lifestyle and a reduction in travel costs. The local community will also benefit from;

  • Reduced congestion
  • Improved journey times
  • No ‘bad’ neighbour parking
  • Improved quality of life
  • Less noise pollution
  • Reduced CO2 emissions
  • Better air quality

Increased use of sustainable modes of transport will encourage local authorities and businesses to invest in public transport, cycle and foot paths, bus and rail services etc.

Modes of Transport

Car – The nursery is located on a small industrial estate near Staple Tye Shopping Centre in Harlow. The nursery has onsite parking however the number of available parking spaces can be limited at certain times of the day. There are no parking restrictions on Perry Road however parking on the road/pavement can cause hazards to pedestrians and other vehicles and is therefore discouraged. Staple Tye Shopping Centre has ample free parking and is just a 2 minute walk away. Visitors visiting the nursery by car should enter postcode CM18 7NS into their satellite navigation device.

The nursery encourages the use of car sharing. Car sharing reduces congestion and CO2 and noise pollution. Travel costs are cheaper than single occupancy vehicles.

Business travel by staff using a car is only permitted if other means of communicating or transport are not suitable e.g. tele-conferencing, online communications etc. Several employees travelling to the same destination at the same time will be required to car share wherever possible.

Walking – Walking is most suited to staff and visitors travelling within two miles of the nursery and can be combined with other methods of transport, such as public transport to cover longer distances. The nursery is surrounded by residential areas that offer illuminated footpaths. Health experts recommend that we should walk 10,000 steps a day (about five miles) to stay fit and healthy. Walking to and from the nursery either directly from home or after using public transport will help you achieve this target. Walking is the most cost effective method of travelling to work as it is entirely free.

Cycling – Cycling is most suited to staff and visitors  travelling within five miles of the nursery and is another way to achieve a healthier lifestyle. There are plenty of cycle routes provided throughout the Harlow area. The nursery has a number of cycle bays that provide a safe and secure place to leave bicycles. Note: the responsibility of the security of the bicycle belongs with the owner of the bicycle. Bicycles should be securely locked to the secure fixings provided.

Cyclelife located at Coyles Car Care in Staple Tye Shopping Centre offers for sale bicycles, accessories, servicing and repairs.
